By Catherine Allen, Founder of The Gilded Horse
Some pieces of jewelry are designed. The Circle Medallion was remembered first, then made.
I grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, where horses are not part of the landscape so much as part of the family. Mornings began at Keeneland, with fog still resting over the track and thoroughbreds grazing just beyond the fence line.

There was sunlight through Bluegrass fields and the hollow sound of hooves on packed earth. As a child, that world felt ordinary. Only later did I understand how rare it was, and how much of it I carried with me, the same world I share in the story behind The Gilded Horse.
When I created the Circle Medallion, I wanted it to feel simple, meaningful, and true to the horse world that shaped me. Not loud. Not trend driven. Just honest, and small enough to keep close.
The Piece That Started Everything
It became the piece that started everything. Before there was a collection, there was this one quiet horse medallion: a circle, a single equine line, and the weight of something that meant a great deal to me.

I did not set out to build a brand. I set out to hold onto a feeling. The partnership between a horse and a rider. The grace in a stride and the stillness of a grazing moment. The medallion was my way of keeping all of that within reach. Everything The Gilded Horse has become grew outward from this one design.
More Than Jewelry
For me, the Circle Medallion has always been more than jewelry. It is a way to carry that connection with you. To horses. To the lifestyle. To the people who understand what they mean.
In Kentucky, there is no such thing as just a horse. A horse is a teacher, a companion, a thread that ties one generation to the next. I wanted a piece that could hold all of that in something small enough to wear every day, and close enough to touch on the days you need the reminder.

Made for the Way You Actually Live
I still reach for the Circle Medallion often, because it works with everything. It feels right for everyday life, and it feels just as right for horse shows, barn days, and Kentucky events.
That was always the intention: a piece you never have to save for a special occasion, because the life around it is the occasion. The early starts. The long days. The quiet moments in the saddle. Handcrafted in solid 14K gold and sterling silver, the Circle Medallion Pendant Necklace was made to hold its finish, and its meaning, through years of wear.
Why the Circle Medallion Became a Signature Piece
That is also why so many people have made the Circle Medallion their own signature piece. What began as my way of carrying a connection has become theirs too, worn across our signature horse medallions from barn to ballroom and everywhere in between.
I never tire of hearing how someone wears theirs, what it reminds them of, and where it travels with them. The meaning was always meant to be shared.
Carry the Story With You
When you wear the Circle Medallion, you are not only wearing a horse medallion. You are carrying a story. Of Kentucky mornings. Of the bond between a horse and a rider. Of a feeling I wanted to make lasting.
That is the whole of it. A simple circle, a single line, and everything they hold. Wherever you go, it goes with you.
With love from Kentucky,
Catherine
